Nicosia-Cyprus: The Church and Government of Cyprus observed the 47th ‘Black Anniversary’ of the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus on the 20th July 2021. Special prayers were made by Archbishop Chrysostomos II at the Cathedral of Apostle Barnabaspresence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Annita Dimitriou, Ministers, military and political dignitaries. A memorial prayer was made at the Tomb of Makedonitissa as well.

During his commemorative speech Nikos Christodoulidis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, recalled the harsh days of 1974 when thousands of Greek Cypriots were removed from their ancestral home. He pointed out that the goal must be the reunification of the Cypriot people, based on a fair, functional and sustainable solution.
