The Diocesan Palace in Moscow will be restored by 2015

2/1/14

“Historically, the Diocesan Palace in Moscow was the most important missionary center for culture and social activities of the Russian Orthodox Church. Patriarch Kirill asked to spare no effort in order to give back this monument in its original appearance to the city of Moscow by 2015”, said Tichon, Bishop of Podol’sk and chairmen of the financial and economic department of the Moscow Patriarchate, while visiting this unique historical building, under restoration since 2006.

In this Palace took place the All-Russian Church Council that in 1917-1918 restored the Patriarchate. Struggles aiming at the restitution of the Palace to the Church lasted more than ten years. It was given back to Church only in 2004, thanks to the joint effort of the Patriarchate and of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University, whose central corpus will be housed by the Palace once restructured.
