The Appeal by Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia
Today is a day of sorrow for Georgians, for Ossetians, for Russians, and for all those people shedding their blood in the August war last year. Therefore, we shall pray for our spiritual sons and daughters dead in the battle as well as other orthodoxies in general, Georgians, Abkhazians, Ossetians, Russians… Let me note that some people believe this day to be the beginning of their victory. But, being the spiritual father, I shall warn Abkhazians and Ossetians if they separate Georgia they will face great danger. Abkhazia will be without Abkhazians, and Tskhinvali Region will be without Ossetians. And, that will be God’s punishment for seizing up original Georgian territories. We pay great honor and respect to Russia, its culture, and its spirituality. We have common saints. But, Russia shall know we never ever reconcile to violation of Georgian borders. And, the issue is unanimous throughout the whole Georgian. We shall seek a peaceful way out. Orthodox churches of Russia and Georgia always support peaceful solution of the problem. We shall express our hope that the Russian authorities will have good will and rationality to find peaceful ways to settle the issue. We shall ask God give mighty to His people.
