Syrian clergymen: Our duty is to join efforts to defend Syria

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) – Syria’s Grand Mufti Dr. Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun and Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant Bishop Luca al- Khouri called Syrian communities in Syria’s Grand Mufti Dr. Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun and Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant Bishop Luca al- Khouri called Syrian communities in Russia and independent countries to join efforts to defend the country.

The remarks came during their meeting with members of the Syrian community in Russia in Moscow, attended by the Syrian ambassador Riad Haddad.

Dr. Hassoun stressed that dialogue is the safest way out of the current crisis, adding that “Syria needs all of its people to stand in the face of its enemies who are threatening to target it under the UN seventh chapter with the aim of meeting the Israeli interests.”

Hassoun pointed out that the misleading media channels are continuing their crimes of instigation with the purpose of dividing the Syrian people and fragmenting the country.

For his part, Bishop al-Khouri said that Syria is sacred and it should be preserved and protected, adding that the west and the USA in addition to Israel, which is occupying Palestine, the cradle of the Jesus Christ and place of ascension of Prophet Mohammad, want to sabotage and destruct Syria.

“We came here to thank our Russian friends who stand by us, we appreciate this stance. Syria will overcome this western-Arab conspiracy,” Bishop al-Khouri added.

In turn, ambassador Haddad expressed faith that Syria will emerge from the crisis stronger because of the awareness of its people. Russia and independent countries to join efforts to defend the country.
