SYRIAC ORTHODOX CHURCH IN AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS CELEBRATES SILVER JUBILEE

Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS: The Silver Jubilee celebration of the founding of the Syrian Orthodox Church of “Mother of God” in Amsterdam, Netherlands, was observed in a colorful and pious function held on Sunday, 16th May 2010. The jubilee ceremonies were preceded by a Holy Mass celebrated by H.E. Mor Polycarpus Augin Aydin, the Patriarchal Vicar for Netherlands. His Eminence Mor Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim, the archbishop of Aleppo was the chief guest. H.E Mor Severius Hazail Soumi from Belgium was also present during the ceremonies.

Priests from home and abroad and many dignitaries of the Roman Catholic, Old Catholic and Armenian, Coptic, Anglican and MPs such as Peter Omtzigt were also present. Johan Meijer representing the Redemptorist Fathers and Mor Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim gave a speech on the church. The choir sang beautiful songs. The ceremonies were followed by a dinner.
