JEWELL, NY [SAC/G. Durniak] — Saint Andrew’s camp has announced that its 2009 season will run July 5 through August 15, 2009.

During its 50-plus year history, the camp has enabled well over 2,000 children and teens experience Orthodox Christianity, not as a Sunday morning affair, but as an all-embracing way of life.

St. Andrew’s CampThe camp is unique in that it is one of the few Orthodox camps with a full six-week season, with up to 50 campers each week. This year, the third week — July 19-25 — will be “Horse Lover’s Week,” with horseback riding and related activities at a local stable. His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, will participate in this year’s “Teen Week” August 9-15.

Founded in 1954 by the faithful of several Syracuse parishes, Saint Andrew’s is located on the shore of beautiful Lake Oneida in the town of Jewell, NY, just 30 minutes from the Syracuse Airport. The 30-acre wooded site features recreational fields, lakefront for swimming and boating, two dormitories, a dining/recreation hall, and a chapel. The main dorm is also available off season as a retreat center. The camp is now run by volunteers from across the northeastern US, and has become a valuable resource of the Diocese of Washington and New York and beyond.

Please visit the camp’s new web site, www.standrewscamp.com, for registration forms, the 2009 brochure, and photo and video galleries. Additional information may be obtained by sending an e-mail to saintandrewscamp@aol.com. Camp alumni may find each other through the new “Saint Andrews Orthodox Camp” group on FaceBook.com.
