Moscow-Russia: The Monastery of the St John the Baptist situated in the Voronezh region of Russia has attained considerable media attention. Carved into a white mountain of chalk, this monastery is one of the world visually stunning places of Christian worship. Odditycentral, Euroweekelynews have published articles on the monastery. In 2020, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty published a photo report on the monastery.

The monastery is presently under the jurisdiction of the Divnogorye Museum-Reserve. The Russian Orthodox Church is hoping to get the same back under its control that was confiscated the Soviet times. However the museum authorities fear that the regain of control by the Church will eventually result in the destruction of its fragile interiors. The Russian Church stated that such concerns have no value.

The Monastery is included in the tentative World Heritage List Nominations by UNESCO.
