Russian Orthodox Church’s Synod holds meeting in Kyiv

A meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has been held in Kyiv with the participation of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus.

Vladimir Legoida, the head of the synodal information department of the Russian Orthodox Church, announced this to journalists.

“It is a historic meeting. It is taking place in Kyiv for the first time in the history of the church,” Legoida said.

According to him, internal operations of the Russian Orthodox Church were considered at the meeting.

Several decisions were made regarding changes to the compositions of certain divisions of the Russian Orthodox Church as well as decisions on creation of an inter-synodal presence for the Russian Orthodox Church as an advisory organ that will operate between meetings of the synod.

Legoida did not say whether representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate were included in the inter-synodal presence.

According to Legoida, the meeting of the synod was held in Kyiv because holding the synod’s meeting in various cities is becoming a normal practice for the Russian Orthodox Church.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus is in Ukraine for a pastoral visit from July 27 to August 5
