Nicosia-Cyprus: Rift in the Church of Cyprus continue as Six bishops did not show up at the consecration of the new cathedral in the capital city of Nicosia. These bishops oppose the recognition of the newly created Orthodox Church in Ukraine (OCU) by Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus. They also oppose the commemoration of Met. Epiphany of OCU by the Cyprotic Primate. Out of seven prelates only, Bishop Porphyrios of Neapolis attended the consecration.

According to Cyprumail, among the prelates who skipped the function also include bishop Bishop Neophytos of Morphou who made controversial comments on the COVID-19 vaccine.

The New Cathedral of Nicosia was jointly consecrated on the 12th of June, 2021 by Archbishop Ieronymos of Greece and Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus. The Cathedral is situated next to the Archbishop’s Palace in Nicosia.
