Resurrection Joy Vocal Symphonic Concert – 2nd Edition

Church of Romania – May 2014

Monday, 19 May 2014, 19.00 hours, the “Resurrection Joy” vocal-symphonic concert took place at the Romanian Atheneum, in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

To start with, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church delivered a speech entitled Lady Maria Brancoveanu – a burning icon lamp of the Romanian nation. The Patriarch of Romania awarded several distinctions to emphasise the activity of some Christian women who distinguished themselves in various fields. Thus, Maria Brancoveanu Cross order was awarded to Ms Lidia Staniloae, daughter of the greatest Orthodox theologian of the 20th century, continuer of the missionary work of Father Staniloae, through the books she publishes, through the memories she always mentions about her father, as well as through her constant presence in the European cultural space. Maria Brancoveanu diploma was awarded to Mrs Niculina Bratu, paediatric surgeon at Marie S. Curie hospital. She continues the mission of great professor Alexandru Pesamosca. She operated over 15,000 children, dedicating her life to the salvation of her little patients. She is a true moneyless doctor, inspired by the faith in God and love for her fellow beings.

Maria Brancoveanu diploma was awarded to stavrofor nun Eufimia Popa, abbess of Tiganesti Monastery, county of Ilfov. She has felt the monastic vocation ever since she was a teenager. Since she became abbess of Tiganesti Monastery, she has been concerned with the restoration of the church and strengthening of the monastic community, always twining work with prayer, having been a model nun for the generation she belongs to. Maria Brancoveanu diploma has also been awarded to Mrs Mioara Grigore, religion teacher and mother of five children. She has recently learned she suffered from cancer in advanced phase. This terrible experience made the basis of the book “Cancer, my love” in which Mrs Grigore calmly explains how she understands her disease, with much hope and faith, and great love for her five children. Her attitude to her disease has become a model for those in distress.
