India/Kerala/Kottayam: On 13th August 2014, Princess Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bhai of the Travancore Royal Family visited His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II – Catholicose of the East and Metropolitan of Malankara who is the Primate of the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church.
Gowri Lakshmi Bhai visited the primate of the Indian Church at Catholicate Palace which is the headquarters of the Church and residence of the Catholicos. Fr Dr K M George, Dr Jacob Kurien and Prof Elias received the guest on behalf of the Church.
The Princess took a look at the 4 pieces of the historical ‘Chepedu’ (the written declaration made by King of Travancore granting 72 special status for the Orthodox Nazaranis of Malankara). She discussed with Catholicos about the common heritage and special relations shared between the Hindu community and Christians in Kerala. In return Catholicos Baselios Paulose thankfully recalled the benevolence of the Travancore Royal family who donated land to construct the Orthodox Theological Seminary ( will be celebrating 200 years of establishment in 2015). The Chief guest also visited the tombs of the former Church fathers and paid her respect. The meeting concluded with exchange of gifts.
Princess Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bayi, is a famous Indo-Anglian writer who belongs to the Travancore Royal Family. She is the niece of the last King of Travancore, Maharajah Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma.
