President Duterte Invites Russian Orthodox Missionaries To The Philippines

“I’m planning to invite the Russian Orthodox missionaries to come to the Philippines so that we can look for a place where we can build the Orthodox Church. It was built many years ago by the Russians, 1922″. – Duterte 

Moscow-Russia- Rodrigo Duterte the President of the Philippines has extended an invitation to the Russian Orthodox Church and her missionaries to expand her presence in the country. Discussion is underway for the reconstruction of the Russian Orthodox Church that was hit by American bombers during the liberation Philippines. Duterte believes that Orthodox Christianity can curb the spread of extremist and terrorist ideologies. The Philippine President was on a working visit to Russia ( first week of October 2019).

The Russian Church will build communities in  Mindanao and other provinces. Orthodox Christianity is one of the fastest-growing religious communities in the Philippines, which is a traditional Roman Catholic hub.

Various Orthodox jurisdictions are already present in Philipines, namely the Diocese of the Philippines and Vietnam (Moscow Patriarchate), Antiochian Orthodox Christian Mission in the Philippines (Antiochian Greek Orthodox Patriarchate),  Exarchate of the Philippines (Ecumenical Patriarchate), Philippine Mission of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR-Moscow Patriarchate). There are also several non-canonical Orthodox jurisdictions serving the faithful of the island nation as well.
