Presentation of Peresopnytsia Gospels held at Complutense University in Madrid

On the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine the delegation of the UOC, led by Archbishop Symeon of Vinnytsia and Mohyliov-Podilskyy  on October 23 – 26 visits Spain, where it holds a series of presentations of the Peresopnytsia Gospels and meets with the Ukrainian Diaspora in the following Spanish cities  – Madrid, Malaga, Granada and Mursia.  

On the delegation also are chairman of the Synodal department “Church and Culture” hegumeness Seraphima (Shevchyk), deputy chairman Shcherbakov O.V., secretary of the DECR of the UOC archpriest Mykola Danylevych and the co-worker of the DECR of the UOC A.Yu.   Kobyletskyy.

 
The first presentation of the Peresopnytsia Gospels was held at the philology department of the biggest Spanish university Complutense in Madrid. 

Taking part in the presentation were also representatives of teacher-professorial staff of the University and the Spanish academic community, representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora and associations of Ukrainians, as well as the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Spain.  

The presentation was opened by the speech of the UOC delegation’s head, Archbishop Symeon of Mohyliov-Podilskyy, who read out a greeting word of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine. Hegumeness Seraphima (Shevchyk) told those present of the history of producing the facsimile copy of the Gospels and its significance for the Ukrainian culture. Archpriest Mykola Danylevych made a report in which he gave philological analysis of the text of the Gospels.  

After the reports by the Ukrainian side, the dean of the philology department of Complutense University Mr. Damaso Lopes Garcia, who marked the symbolism of the fact of presentation of the Ukrainian Gospels in the leading Spanish education establishment, founded in 1499 as an academic center on the study of the Bible, and later on other disciplines were added to the biblical studies.     

All those attending were shown a film on the Peresopnytsia Gospels, following which Archbishop Symeon of Mohyliov-Podilskyy solemnly passed the facsimile copy of the Gospels for the University library.
