Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem leads Prayer for peace in Jordan

May 2014

At Bethany beyond Jordan, the place where Christ was baptised by John the Baptist, the church leaders held a Divine Liturgy to pray for peace for the Holy Land and the region.

The Jerusalem patriarch Theophilos III delivered an address to the gathering, reiterating the significance of Jordan’s role as a “hub of peace” and a model to follow for inter-religious co-existence and tolerance.

He noted that the event was unprecedented, urging Christians around the world to visit the Baptism Site and other biblical locations in the Kingdom, vowing that his church would do its best to make pilgrims’ experience “worthwhile and memorable”.

Along with Prince Ghazi, the Liturgy was also attended by an array of senior officials, lawmakers and key figures.
