Patriarch Preaches Respect for Parents

5/12/2011

The Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia Ilia the second spoke about importance of respecting parents. He said that parents today give a varied education to their children, but they’re forgetting spiritual education.

“That’s why they don’t grow up as we expect them to be but selfish people who leave their parents. Parents, spending their lives bringing up children, can hardly imagine that a child will take them to the old persons’ home, but they have to know that their children will not treat them that way. For an individual’s happiness, we have this answer: honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long. We must remember this and ask your parents to bless you every day”, Ilia II addressed the congregation.

Ilia II also congratulated people on the day of Virgin Mary’s Induction to Church.

“A church has great importance. It is a gate to paradise. When we started construction of St. Trinity cathedral, only the foundation was sanctified and the kindness in the vicinity was already so great that we didn’t want to go elsewhere. It means that there is a special kindness in the temple that changes an individual. Today we have a very difficult period, when spiritual values are regarded differently, time when sin is not a sin and people are wolves to each other. To be on the right place of Jesus Christ, faith and strong belief is necessary”, Ilia II said.
