” And as for comparisons between the Eastern Orthodox and Roman-Catholic believers, they are unrewarding and devoid of meaning by and large. They belong to different nations with age-old different traditions. Why the Great Schism – the separation between the Western and Eastern Churches — occurred (in the early Middle Ages) and where the real border, not the declared one, between the Western and Eastern parts of the Roman Empire ran in reality is a subtle historiosophical question. Each of us should focus on their own business and should not knock about in others’ yards. ” – His Holiness Kirill – Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.

I have been very moved by the stories on this site of the Orthodox mission in Guatemala. Is Patriarch Kirill saying that the mission should leave Guatemala since that country is obviously in the Roman Catholic “yard”?

Indeed, by Kirill’s logic, there should be no Orthodox churches whatsoever in the west.

Considering that his trained monkey, Hilarion, spends half his time bearing false witness against the Greek Catholics of Ukraine, I put no stock in the words of Putin’s puppet.

Except Alaska. All Catholics out of Alaska!

Seriously, I believe that all Christian churches can benefit from a little competition, as long as it is friendly and fraternal. One could argue that the Bolsheviks gained power in small part due to the insularity of the Orthodox churches. Since the 1930’s the Orthodox have done well in their battle against their insularity and toward evangelization. Kirill should be brave and reach outward, and be daring and open inward. The alternative is demonstrated by what is happening in Ukraine: a Christian scandal on all sides because no one is reaching out to any other.
