The ceremony in memory of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Athenagoras held annually by the Theology Department at Boston College was attended by the Metropolitan of France, Emmanuel, who held a speech focused on “The Ecumenical Patriarch and the Importance of Discussion”.

The ceremony, which took place in the Maliotis Cultural Centre, was opened by the choir of the Theology Department, that sang hymns in Greek as well as the greetings to the Ecumenical Patriach Bartholomew, The Metropolitan of Boston Mathodios and the Metropolitan of France Emmanuel.

Thomas Fitzgerald, the Dean of the Theology Faculty, made statements concerning the ceremony and the late Patriarch Athenagoras, while Helias Patsavos, Professor of Canon Law, warmly introduced Metropolitan Emmanuel.

The Metopolitan of France, who studied in the Theology Department of Boston College, referred to his study years, saying that he “came as stranger and left as a brother”.
