Orthodox Pilgrimage on the Palm Sunday in Bucharest

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of Bucharest, inform us:

Saturday, 7 April 2012, on the eve of the royal feast of the Entrance of the Lord in Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), the Romanian Patriarchate and Archdiocese of Bucharest will organise the Palm Sunday Pilgrimage in Bucharest with the participation of hierarchs, priests, monks and faithful of Bucharest and Ilfov county. The religious missionary event is organised with the support of Basilica Press Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The pilgrimage will begin at “Radu Vodă” Monastery, at 16.14 hours, and take the following route: Radu Vodă St., Mărăşeşti Ave, Dimitrie Cantemir Ave., Bibescu Vodă Ave., Şerban Vodă St. (with a stop at “Saint Spiridon the New” church, patriarchal chapel), Principatele Unite St., Ienăchiţă Văcărescu St., Saint Ecaterina St., (with a stop at “Saint Ecaterina” church, chapel of “Patriarch Justinian” Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest), Bibescu Vodă St., Aleea Dealul Mitropoliei St., and will end at 18.00 hours at the Patriarchal Cathedral, where the pilgrims will be met by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The pilgrimage programme is the following:

-16.18 hours – at Radu Vodă Monastery, His Grace Varsanufie Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest will consecrate the willow branches to be given to the faithful.

-16.15 hours – departure to Radu Vodă Monastery

-17.00 hours – the procession will be met at Saint Spiridon the New church by the priests and faithful of the parishes of Saint Spiridon, Saint Great Martyr Dumitru – Slobozia and Saint Alexe of Deanery III Capital.

-17.30 hours – the procession will be met at “Saint Ecaterina “ church by the rev. professors and theological students of “Patriarch Justinian” Faculty of Theology of Bucharest.

-18.00 hours – the pilgrims will be met at the Patriarchal Cathedral by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, who will deliver a sermon.

The deaneries of the Archdiocese of Bucharest of Prahova county (Ploieşti, Vălenii de Munte, Câmpina and Urlaţi) will organise local pilgrimages on the Palm Sunday.
