Nahyan bin Mubarak opens Coptic Orthodox Church in Al Ain

Abu Dhabi, 11 Dec. 2010 (WAM) – Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, opened last night the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church in Al Ain.

Sheikh Nahyan said the inauguration of the church in Al Ain show the important role played by that the UAE under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in infusing the values of tolerance, fraternity among all beliefs, as well as adherence to the principles of Islam on spreading peace, security and goodwill.

Archbishop Anba Abraham, Coptic Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, Gulf and Near East, has extended, on behalf of Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the Holy Apostolic See of Saint Mark, thanks and appreciation to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, General H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, praising UAE’s policy of wisdom, tolerance and respect for others’ beliefs, the foundation of which was laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Present were Ali Al Hashemi, Religious and Judicial Advisor at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Mohammed Al Hawari, Egyptian Charge D’affairs, scholars and members of the Egyptian community.
