Mother See Announces Holy Week Schedule
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – March 2016
The Mother See is pleased to announce the 2016 schedule of Holy Week and Easter Services. All services will be held in the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin. We encourage our faithful world-wide to participate in the services leading up to the Glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Armenian communities throughout the world will be able to watch Easter Divine Liturgy broadcast live from the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin on Sunday morning, March 28, on Armenian Public Television available through satellite providers and on the internet. The international television broadcast schedule will be announced soon.
PALM SUNDAY – March 20
10:00 – Blessing of the Four Corners of the Earth (Andastan)
10:30 – Divine Liturgy
13:00 – Blessing of the Children service
17:30 – Opening of the Doors Service (Drnbatsek)
HOLY TUESDAY – March 22
COMMEMORATION OF THE TEN VIRGINS
17:30 – Evening Services
HOLY THURSDAY – March 24
(Commemoration of the Last Supper established by Our Lord Jesus Christ)
07:30 – Morning Service and “Karg Apashkharoghats” (Service for those who are fasting)
10:30 – Divine Liturgy
04:00 – Washing of the Feet Service – Offered by His Holiness Karekin II
07:00 – Betrayal Service in memory of the betrayal and torture of Our Lord Jesus Christ
HOLY FRIDAY – March 25
(Commemoration of the Crucifixion and Burial of Our Lord Jesus Christ)
12:00 – Crucifixion Service
17:30 – Burial Service. Following the Burial service a pre-feast service will be offered. During the service the symbolic Tomb of Christ is solemnly processed around the outside of the church. The ceremony will be presided by HH Karekin II
EASTER EVE (Holy Saturday) – March 26
17:30 – Evening Service and Candlelight Divine Liturgy. Holy Scripture readings and the reading of the Prophet Daniels’ letter will be followed by the Evening Service, and then Divine Liturgy.
HOLY EASTER – March 27
(Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ)
7:30 – Morning Service
10:30 – Pontifical Divine Liturgy – Celebrant – His Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All Armenians
MEMORIAL DAY – March 28
10:30 – Divine Liturgy
11:45 – Repose of Souls Service
