Metropolitan Amfilohije Detained by Montenegrian Police

“Arresting of His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije for informative questioning must be condemned without any exception”,  said protopresbyter Gojko Perovic, principal of the Orthodox Seminary of St Peter of Cetinje in his speech on radio “Svetigora”.

Father Gojko says that it is not clear what are the criteria of dealing with the Police of Montenegro and whether there are any criteria at all.

While these days more people have gathered in public places, in front of bakeries, markets, and construction sites than in front of Orthodox churches,  because we priests obey the law and regulations and do not invite people. Police have arrested His Eminence Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral for the worship in Zlatica, which was officiated only by priests and chanters. We do not want to raise tensions. Today is a beautiful feast-day, full of divine grace – but what has happened is unbelievable, “said Father Gojko Perovic.

Father Gojko adds that instead of the dialogue and agreement we have been requesting since the beginning of this state of emergency, we now have the arrest of the man with the most respected title among Montenegrin citizens.

“We call upon for the immediate and exigent release of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije,” says Father Gojko Perovic.
