Message of His Holiness Karekin II on Commemoration Day of the First Armenian Republic
“We convey our pontifical blessings from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to the faithful Armenian nation in the Homeland and the Diaspora, and offer our congratulations on the 91st anniversary of the First Armenian Republic.
With the glorious victories of May 1918, the united Armenian nation protected our Homeland and established the first Armenian Republic during harsh and difficult times.
The history of our first Republic was not long, but it established the roots of our statehood. Today we honor that chapter from the last century, which was a time full of sacrifice and hope for our nation. We remember the efforts of our faithful people who faced many challenges, and established the free and independent life of our Homeland.
In remembrance of our ancestors, the sacredness of Republic Day is a call and an occasion for us to fervently care for the welfare and prosperity of our nation and its future.
We offer our prayers to God, that He grant peace to the whole world and strengthen our worldwide nation with faith, patriotism and love for our Church, so that we may realize all of our national aspirations through hard work and dedication, with honest and noble deeds.”
