Lordan Zafranović to Direct a Movie on the Horrors of the Jasenovac Concentration Camp

Belgrade-Serbia: Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia received famous movie director Lordan Zafranović and Maja Gojkovic, the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information.
After the meeting, the Patriarch commended that “In a friendly conversation I initiated, the great director Lordan Zafranović presented to Maja Gojkovic, the Minister of Culture, and me a new version of the script of the film about the suffering in the Jasenovac camp, based on the text by Arsen Diklic “Children of Kozara”. The realization of the film about the suffering of the innocent in Jasenovac, and especially the children, should be helped by everyone who has the opportunity. The theme of absolute evil, which manifestation is the camp in Jasenovac, is one of the eternal artistic themes that will never be completely exhausted”.
The film is based on true events, both witnesses and a large number of books that have been written about Jasenovac since 1945 until this day. Lordan Zafranović Czech-Croatian film director, who is a major figure of the Yugoslav Black Wave who is a recipient of several international accolades.
Jasenovac camp was established authorities of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) during the second Word War. Operated and managed by the the governing Ustaše regime, it was one of the largest concentration camps in Europe. It has been estimated that nearly 1.7 million Serbs, Jews and other ethnic minorities were tortured and killed in the camp.
