Church of Cyprus Recovers Looted Church Doors from Japan

Nicosia-Cyprus: The Church of Cyprus have recovered an 18th century Church door stolen from St. Anastasios Orthodox Church in the village of Peristeronopigi. According to Minister Yiannis Karousos, the recovery was made after long and intense efforts.

The doors were stolen during the Turkish occupation of Cyprus in 1974. During the occupation, a large number of icons, and other artefacts were stolen by the invading forces and smugglers.

Minister Yiannis Karousos also stated that Cyprus will continue to hunt down smugglers and that cultural genocide cannot be accept at any cost.
