Liturgical Book “Holy Week”

The Albanian Orthdoox Chruch – April 2014

Liturgical book “Holy Week” has been issued by the Albanian Church. The book contains all the worship services of the Orthodox Church performed during the Holy Week of Easter. This is a reprint of the book with the same name published by the church in 2009.

In this edition are widely used the translations and adaptations in Albanian language of the Bishop Theofan Noli published in both its variants, as well as adjustments in today’s language translation of Kostandin Kristoforidhi and other translators.

The book contains all the worship services of the Holy Week, which include the biblical readings and common prayers presented with highly dynamic composition to be sung with Byzantine music. The topics of these services are: On Monday is commemorated the blessed and noble Joseph and the fig tree which was cursed and withered by the Lord; On Tuesday of Holy Week is commemorated the parable of the Ten Virgins; On Wednesday of Holy Week is commemorated the anointing of Christ with myrrh by the sinful woman; On Thursday of Holy Week is commemorated the washing of the disciples’ feet, the institution of the Holy Eucharist, the Marvelous Prayer, the betrayal of Judah; On Friday of Holy Week are commemorated the Holy Passions of the Lord Jesus Christ; On Saturday of Holy Week is commemorated the burial of Christ and His descent into Hades; On Sunday of Holy Week is celebrated the life-giving Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
