Kim Chang-il respected Orthodoxy, Russian сhurch official says
Moscow, December 20, Interfax – The Moscow Patriarchate is thankful to Kim Chang-il for respectful attitude to the Russian Church and condoles over his decease.
“The Russian Orthodox Church remembers with gratitude Kim Chang-il’s contribution to developing spiritual links between Korean and Russian peoples rooted in work of the Russian Ecclesiastic Mission in Korea,” deputy head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Nikolay Balashov told an Interfax-Religion correspondent.
He recalled that the late leader of the North Korean state “respected the Orthodox Church” and the Holy Trinity Church in Beijing was built on his personal initiative as a symbol of Russian-Korean friendship as well as the Orthodox Committee of the PDRK.
“We sympathize with its members and hope that life of Korean people in PDRK will develop peacefully and creatively for the welfare of all country’s residents,” the priest said.
