BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt said Monday that although he understood the fears of the Christian community he would announce a clear stance regarding a new election law which rival Christian leaders agreed upon last week for the 2013 parliamentary elections.

“As for the election law, despite understanding the concerns of some groups in this matter, we will have a clear stance later regarding the Orthodox [Gathering] proposal,” said Jumblatt in his weekly editorial at PSP’s Al-Anbaa newspaper.

Christian leaders from the rival camps of March 14 and March 8 reached a rare agreement on a proposal put forth by the Orthodox Gathering which calls for a single electoral district, with proportional representation within each sect.
