Baltimore, MD (IOCC) — A devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake and several powerful aftershocks have rocked the ancient city of Kathmandu, Nepal, leaving a trail of massive destruction and loss of lives. More than 2,000 people have died and hundreds of thousands more left homeless as multiple tremors flattened houses and buildings in the region. Many more victims are feared trapped as rescue workers frantically search for survivors under the rubble left by the quakes. Local hospitals are overwhelmed by the steady stream of injured victims seeking aid, and the need for food, water and shelter is urgent.

International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), an ACT Alliance member, is working with relief partners on the ground in Nepal to assess the immediate humanitarian needs and provide support for emergency relief.
