Interface of Religion and Science for a Just and Peaceful Society

On Thursday the 6th of April 2011, St.Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur played host to a remarkable event in the history of religious dialogue with secular Science. The Programme was inaugurated by H.H Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the Supreme Head of Malankara Orthodox Church. The eminent speakers for the day were Rev. Dr. Roger Gaikwad (Gen. Secretary NCCI) who introduced the theme, which was soon followed by the I Paper Presentation by Rev. Dr. Kuruvilla Pandikattu SJ presented paper on ‘The How of Science and the Why of Religion: The Meaning of Human Existence’

The II paper was presented by H.G Joseph Mar Dionysios- Science and Religion for a Just and Peaceful Society.

Dr.Varghese Punoose presented, ‘mind matters! – Emerging interfaces of neuroscience, psychology and theology’

The plenary session witnessed address by Archbishop H.B Abraham Viruthikulangara. The Interface was a unique event for exploring new arenas of interaction between Science and religion. The attendance of various scholars, educationists and religious leaders was edifying.
The event also saw the release of two books one authored by the Vice-Principal of the Seminary, Rev. Fr. Ninan K. George-‘Beautiful are you O Holy Church’

And the second authored by an alumni of the seminary, Rev. Fr. P.S Varghese- ‘Santhwanam’.
