Inter Religious Peace Conference held in Poland

From 6 – 8 September 2009, the international inter-religious peacemaking community gathered in Krakow Poland to attend the conference: “70 Years After World War II – Faiths and Cultures in Dialogue”. The event was organized in “the Spirit of Assisi”, under the auspices of the Community of Sant’Egidio and Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Krakow. The goal of the conference was to build bridges of dialogue between different faiths and cultures. During the conference there were discussions and workshops on current world challenges.

With the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, His Eminence Archbishop Norvan Zakharian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of France and Pontifical Legate for Western Europe, represented the Armenian Church at the conference. Archbishop Norvan also participated in a panel of experts and delivered a report on “Martyrdom and Resistance to Evil.”

On the final day of the conference, the participants made a Silent March to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, where a memorial ceremony was held in memory of the victims. A final ceremony was held in the main public square following a Procession of Peace.
