ST. THOMAS INDIAN ORTHODOX HINDI CONGREGATION: A LIGHT UNTO THE NATIONS
Bhilai: In what could be termed as a historic decision for the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese has formed St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Hindi Congregation for the local people of Central and Eastern India. The Kalpana ( Encyclical) numbered DOC/01/2014 and released on 2nd February 2014,the Feast of Mayaltho and Dukhrono of LL Pathrose Mar Osthathios Metropolitan exhorts individuals, families and churches to follow the Great Commission of our Lord and God Jesus Christ to “…go and make disciples of all nations…”.
Through the formation of St. Thomas Hindi Congregation about Thirty Five people who have realized the Love of Christ in their lives and are participating in our worship and services for the past few years have got an opportunity to become members of Orthodox Church and live as true followers of Christ. Earlier on 14.12.2012 through Kalpana no. Through DOC/2012-13/87 Mar Dionysius had appointed Mr.Sunil Varghese, Korba as the Missionary of the Diocese of Calcutta to work among the people who have not heard about Christ. God is wonderfully using him as a witness among people who are thirsting the love of God.
For a fruitful pastoral care for the members of the Hindi Congregation, the Metropolitan has also appointed Fr. Jose K Varghese (Bhilai), Fr. Lijo John ( Korba )and Fr. Cherian Joseph (Nagpur) as Vicar , Chaplain and Assistant Chaplain respectively. Mr.Sunil Varghese, the Diocesan Missionary shall continue to co-ordinate the functions of the Congregation.
Mar Dionysius strongly believes that being the indigenous Church of India it is the obligation and duty of the Church to take initiatives in spreading the Love of God far and wide. The Metropolitan is following the footsteps of our great fathers like Parumala Mar Gregorios, L.L. Alvares Mar Julius, L.L. Pathrose Mar Osthathios, L.L. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios and L.L. Stephanos Mar Theodosius who were dazzling examples of Witnessing God’s unbound love towards humanity.
