Hope kept alive for Kiesha Abrahams at St Bishoy

22/12/2010

CLUTCHING candles and singing carols, the Mt Druitt community came together last week to renew hope for missing six-year-old Kiesha Abrahams and her family.

More than 150 people attended the carols by candlelight at St Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church on Wednesday.

The church is just streets away from where Kiesha went missing from her apartment unit on Woodstock Ave on August 1.

Co-ordinator Peter Morkos told the Mt Druitt-St Marys Standard that organisers were overwhelmed by the support of those who attended the event.

“We really feel that we are one community,’’ Mr Morkos said.

“God does listen to people and miracles do exist.

“We’re always praying for her. We hope God will give peace to Kiesha’s family and that we will hear some new soon.’‘

Father Gabriel Yassa opened the service with a Bible story of hope and faith before a children’s choir led people through a selection of carols including Silent Night and Joy to the World.

The choir consisted of 25 primary school children from St Bishoy’s Sunday outreach service.

“When people sing, you can really feel everyone singing with joy,’’ Mr Morkos said.

“We are one family and Kiesha is to us, part of the extended family of God.

“She is really the daughter of everyone else in the area.’‘

The carols by candlelight was intended to be a cheerful gathering to create hope for Kiesha’s family and the wider community.

Mr Morkos said they fulfilled their goal of hosting an uplifting and spiritual occasion amidst an anxious and sad time.

St Bishoy previously held a prayer service for Kiesha in August which was attended by over 100 people.
