HIS HOLINESS ARAM I MEETS PATRIARCH ZAKKA I IN DAMASCUS

05/12/2010

On Wednesday 12 May 2010 His Holiness Aram I met Patriarch Zakka I at the Patriarchate of the Syrian Orthodox Church in Damascus. The two Leaders first held a closed session and then Metropolitan George Saliba and Bishop Nareg Alemezian joined them.

During their meeting Patriarch Zakka I and Catholicos Aram I discussed three issues of common concern: First the schism within the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church, and the desire of the two groups to ask Catholicos Aram to mediate. Second, decision of the Coptic Orthodox Church to suspend its membership in the Middle East Council of Churches, following a decision taken by the Executive Committee at its last meeting. After the visit of Patriarch Zakka to Pope Shenouda III, the Coptic Orthodox Church was asking Catholicos Aram who did not attend the last meeting of the Executive Committee, to mediate and settle the issue. Three, strengthening the witness of the Oriental Orthodox Family in the Middle East in response to rising ecumenical and interreligious concerns.

If H.Aram I is able to settle the issue of malankara church, we will be much much much grateful. Lord will bless you a lot. Because many families in Malankara church cries and expecting pease, but the leadership in malankara and Anthioque is not ready, and saying silly reasons for not joining.

We pray for our Pathriarcha of Anthioque to get wisdom to settle the issue.

We sincerly request all leaders to solve the problem(Actually there is no specific problem, problem is the personal interest of leaders)

It is really very happy news for my family.
My family members are in both sides. They are highly dissatisfied with this unethical stands of both sides. Many of our christian members are leaving our church and join with protastent churches. Many of our members are not attending H.Qurbana in church, because of this insulting and pathetic conditons of our churches. I pray God to give strength for the union of both sides permanently.

Its a good work by HH Aram.
But I doubt whether HH Aram knows that the problem of malankara church lies only with the bishops and the old generation people of both the communities.Even if the bishops are willing to join hands I doubt whether the old people will allow.

Really a great move by his holiness ARAM 1 .Patriarch church in India is loosing its strength day by day.so they are force to do a lot of illegal activities to survive.Recently a priest of patriarch church was accused for murdering a Orthodox managing commitee member. This is really pathetic and great threat for christian faith. VIOLATION OF LAW is the real cause of non-unity in MALANKARA CHRISTIANS, NOT THE LEADERS.

I dont wish for a union of both faction because we canot say it may break after some time. Better be separate churches and co operate in the possible fields as is now among the layman.

I wish the the common man if need to donate their dasamsam or offering give to some people who is really need help for the marriage , studies or treatments or for making home but nver for making church and to spend for court cases.

Even if we donate to church, we will not get preference for admission, treatment of any thing which belongs to our church and built on our Donation.

I believe Malankara Church will be united once again and will remain strong. But it may take another generation. We should know that there are some outside parties who do not want our church to be one because they are waiting to swallow the church, particulary Jacobites.

There are many factors which could contribute the future unity of our church. It is in the interest of Antioch that this unity should come. Otherwise Orthodox now and Jacobites later will leave Antioch. Slowly both the churches will drift away totally from Antioch and become purely Indian faith if this disunity continues for more than a decade.

Myself, a jacobite, belive that unity must come. catholic faith is facing disintegration from within and the future is ORTHODOX FAITH.

I believe the path to peace is through reconciliation. So few – clergy and lay folk alike practice the true meaning of Christian love within either factions. Too many are complacent wallowing in their ignorance and ideology than focusing on the big picture. We both have the same problems to face and remaining in disharmony will only allow the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Faith to fizzle into oblivion. Much respect to HH Aram I and my hope he’s able to bring the obstinate few who although don’t speak for however unfortunately represent the many who look forward to peace and love in Christ. May God one day show us the errors of our wicked ways…
