H.H. Ignatius Zakka-I entering the 30th year of Patriarchal enthronement in the Holy Apostolic See of Antioch & All the East

Mor Aphrem Monastery, Syria: On Monday, September 14, 2009, His Holiness Ignatius Zakka-I Iwas is entering 30th year in the Holy Patriarchal See of Antioch & All the East. It was on September 14, 1980, the day of feast of Holy cross, our spiritual father was enthroned as the 122nd successor of St. Peter in the Apostolic See of Antioch & All the East in a rite officiated by the late lamented Catholicos of the East Aboon Mor Baselios Paulose II, along with the archbishops of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church. Since then, as a true Shepherd of Shepherds, His Holiness is leading the Holy Church to greater and greater glories. Though His Holiness’ health has deteriorated in recent years due to various illnesses, H.H. is still very much active in guiding and leading the Holy Church. For the last two weeks His Holiness was in Germany undergoing various medical tests and the results have been almost positive. H.H will retrun to the Mor Aphrem monastery on Saturday, September 12, 2009.

Despite the busy schedule His Holiness has written and published a lot of articles on a variety of subjects, in Syriac, Arabic and English, many of which has been made available online during the silver jubilee year of Patriarchal enthronement in 2005. H.H. is one of the very few primates of the Syrian Church who have been in the Patriarchal office for such a long period.
