Gulf Media Publishes News on Proposed Digitization of WCC’s Faith and Order Papers

MUSCAT – Sultanate of Oman: Observer Weekend, the weekend magazine of Sultanate’s leading daily, Oman Daily Observer, published a feature on the proposed digitization of the Faith and Order papers of World Council of Churches (WCC).

The two-page story appeared in the magazine’s August 11 edition on Thursday and extensively quotes from those responsible for the project.

The WCC is an ecumenical fellowship of churches founded in 1948, which brings together 348 member churches from all over the world and promotes Christian unity in faith, witness and service for a just and peaceful world.

The Commission on Faith and Order is a study commission of the WCC, which undertakes theological studies and is ecumenical in nature. The approximately 60,000-100,000 CHF budgeted work is set to be launched in 2018 during the 70th anniversary of WCC, the Geneva-based worldwide inter-church organization.

The project, a joint initiative of the commission along with WCC, Director of Communications, is headed by Ms Marianne Ejdersten.

The project includes Dr Susan Durber, Moderator of Faith and Order Commission, WCC, along with Dr Odair Pedroso Mateus, Faith and Order Director, and a lecturer in Ecumenical Theology at Bossey. Dr Susan, the public face of the project, is also Minister, Taunton United Reformed Church.

Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, a Norwegian, is the present WCC General Secretary since January 2010.
