Great Lent begins today for Orthodox believers in Georgia.
As the Georgian Patriarchate told Trend, Great Lent begins seven weeks before Easter.

This is the largest Orthodox fast.

During the first four days of Great Lent, the Canon of St. Andrew of Crete is read.
Catholicos-Patriarch of All-Georgia Ilia II will read the Canon of St. Andrew of Crete at the Sioni Cathedral on Monday and Tuesday, at the Patriarchal Church of the Holy Trinity on Wednesday and Thursday. Liturgy will be held on Wednesday and Friday.
This year, Great Lent begins on March 7 and ends on April 24.

Preparation for Great Lent began on Feb. 14.
