Georgian Orthodox Church in Trouble Amid Investigation on Ninotsminda Orphanage

Tiblisi-Georgia: The powerful Georgian Orthodox Church has urged the Ministry of Interior to publish details of the ongoing investigations against the Ninotsminda Orphanage. Owned by the Georgian Church the orphanage has invited considerable controversy in recent time. There are allegations of violence and rape against minors. The orphanage is home to 50 children.
Bishop Spiridon is in charge of the orphanage. However, he has refused the monitoring visit of the Public Defender to the orphanage. He also accused and insulted the public defender as “blind and deaf” which has invited public attention and criticism.
