Father Baret on the nature of independence of the Armenian Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem

January 2015

The letter from Father Baret is about the independence of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

In the letter the Reverend Father refers to all the canonical points, that the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, though being a part of the whole Armenian Apostolic Church, but is independent in governing its own affairs, like to elect their Patriarch, to elect Bishops, to run the administrative work etc.

Also is written in reference to some arguments what were proposed in the constitutional plan of the Mother See, where it states that the hierarchical sees and dioceses are administratively on the same level of importance- something that our representatives have argued forcefully against this planning or proposals.

The Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem is an integral part of the Armenian Apostolic Church, but totally independent in running her own affairs, without any outside interference.

The Mother See’s approach was not in accordance with our constitution, but contrary to it, and for that reason did our Patriarch sent a strong letter of protest.

Father Baret’s letter explains the situation.
