Addis Ababa-Ethiopia: The second biannual Synodal meeting of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church concluded on 12th May 2020. The synod decided to reopen the parish and other churches for service by adhering to the protection guidelines issued by WHO, the Ethiopian government, and health professionals to hold church services and sacraments.

The Synod urged all political parties to work for security and to maintain a stable environment in the country. The Synod called for peace due to current and unnecessary arguments and oral conflicts that took place after the electoral board and the house of people’s representation passed a resolution to postpone this year’s election (which was expected to be held in August) due to COVID 19 pandemic.

The Ethiopian Church will provide assistance and support for the construction of the great EGRD dam. The Synod also advised all Ethiopians to encounter the pandemic period by adhering to Christian ethics.

The Synod also decided to apply a discount for Church buildings leased to individuals in response to the economic crisis amid the Corona pandemic. Archbishops from the Diaspora were unable to attend the meeting due to travel restrictions.
