Ethiopian Orthodox Faithful Urged to Participate in the New Strategic Church Plan

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia: The Holy Synod of the EOTC approved the new strategic plan during the first Synod Council (after the Church unification process in October 2018). Archbishop Abuna Dioscoros (of Southern Tigray & the director of the headquarters of EOTC) made a press release on 27th March on the implementation process of the new strategic plan. He told that the major aims of the strategic plan are to create a fair and trustworthy Church administration, to expand the mission of the Church and to preserve the Church traditions in accordance with the current needs of the faithful and by responding to the challenge of the dynamic world and other religious forces. The plan aims at improving the quality of the Church service as well.
For its successful implementation, a project implementation committee has been constituted (for 3 working years). This committee will report its progress to the headquarters (Patriarchate) of the Church in accordance with the given guidelines.
The implementation process will begin from the Patriarchate and will be extended to dioceses and parish Churches. According to the press, there are a number of challenges with regards to the successful implementation of the project (such as corruption, political agenda of various ethnocentric groups, and reformists).
Hence, the Church leadership has urged the clergies and faithful to cooperate in the implementation of the project through prayers, skill, and financial contributions and by encountering corruption, ethnocentric politics, and false information propagated by the reformist groups. The EOTC Sunday schools department, ‘Mahebere Kidusan’ have declared their support to the new strategic project through a press release on its 15th annual ‘Hawire Hiwot’ /literary a pilgrimage of life trip.
