Moscow- Russia: His All Holiness Bartholomew I – Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch said that schism in Ukrainian Orthodoxy should be resolved based on cannons and not on political elements. The primate of the great Church of Constantinople made the statement during a meeting with Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary along with Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, (Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Department for External Church Relations), Verkhovna (Rada Deputy) Vladimir Novinsky, and Metropolitan Job (Ecumenical Patriarchate). Metropolitan Antony and Archpriest Nikolai are members of the recently formed committee of the Moscow Patriarchate to resolve schism in Ukraine. The participants agreed that the schism should be handled in the most appropriate manner based on cannons in order overcome the same.

Patriarch Filaret of Kiev Calls for dialogue with Russian Orthodox Church

Last Friday a meeting was held in Kiev between the representation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople (Archbishop Daniel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA, and Bishop Hilarion of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada) and Patriarch Philaret of the unrecognized Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kivyan Patriarchate. They discussed issues regarding Ukrainian schism.
