Ecuador President promises Patriarch Kirill his help in building Orthodox Church in Quito

Moscow, October 30, Interfax – Ecuador Rafael Correa backs up the decision of the Russian Orthodox Church to build a church for Russian compatriots in this country.

At a Friday meeting with Correa in Patriarchal Chambers of the Christ the Savior Cathedral Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said that more Russian and Russian-speaking people came to live in Ecuador as Russian-Ecuador relations had actively developed and the Church paid much attention to their spiritual condition.

The Patriarch thanked Correa for friendly attitude to the presence of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ecuador.

“We don’t give up our hope to build a church in Quito. There is real need for it,” Patriarch Kirill said.

The Ecuador President stated, “the Russian Orthodox Church has all possibilities and grounds to carry out its pastoral work” in his country.

“If you could promptly erect a church in Ecuador that would at least to a small degree remind a church we as we’re in today, it would be a great joy for us,” the Ecuador President told Patriarch Kirill.
