Discussions on Armenian Genocide started in Knesset
YEREVAN, JUNE 12, ARMENPRESS: In Israeli Parliament –Knesset on June 12 have been organized discussions relating to Armenian Genocide issue. Armenpress reports citing Izrus news portal that during the discussions deputy Dov Hanin who represents “Khadash” party has mentioned that in the context of Armenian Genocide any numbers or state security issues must not be discussed. “The murder of hundred thousands of Armenians is a fact” mentioned the deputy. Hanin also reminded that Adolph Hitler decided to carry out the Holocaust as he was sure that it will stay unpunished as Armenian Genocide. Earlier Armenpress had informed that Knesset chairperson Reuven Rivlin decided to permit the debate on June 12 at the request of MK Zahava Gal-On (Meretz Party).
Discussion on Armenian Genocide will not lead to its recognition by Israeli Parliament: The decision follows the Turkish decision to try senior Israeli officials in court for their involvement in the IDF raid on the Gaza-bound ship the Mavi Marmara – the debate will be held just one day before the publication of the State Comptroller’s report on the affair on June 13. Throughout the years, the government and the Knesset have refrained from discussing the subject in fear of harming relations between Israel and Turkey.
