Decisions of the Standing Meeting of the Church National Council of 25 February 2010

Romanian Orthodox Church

25/2/2010

On 25 February 2010, the working session of the Standing Meeting of the Church National Council was held in the Synodal Room, at the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, according to Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchy. We mention some of the decisions taken:

– Drafting a Bible Orthodox Dictionary under the supervision of Univ. Prof. Rev. Dr. Petre Semen from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Dumitru Stăniloae, of Iaşi, in order to provide the Christian theology professors, priests and journalists with an instrument of work in the exegetic, homiletic and catechetical analysis of the Bible texts;

– Drafting a Dictionary of Orthodox Theology under the supervision of Univ. Prof. Rev. Dr. Ştefan Buchiu, Dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Patriarch Justinian of Bucharest, and of Univ. Prof. Rev. Dr. Ioan Tulcan, Dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Arad. The Dictionary will have four sections: 1) Orthodox Theological Terminology, 2) Orthodox Theological Trends, 3) Theological Personalities and 4) Theological Schools;

– Setting up a Centre of Research and Dialogue in Theology, Science and Philosophy within the framework of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Patriarch Justinian. We mention some of the purposes of this Centre: providing support in the activity of the religion professors within the pre-university field, as well as the good development of the programme entitled Christ shared with the children, unfolded by the Romanian Patriarchate at national level; emphasising the points of convergence and the themes of potential dialogue between the Orthodox theology, recent sciences and philosophy. A similar Centre of Inter-disciplinary Research has been operating in Iaşi since 2006, at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Dumitru Stăniloae, within the University of Alexandru Ioan Cuza of Iaşi;

– The Standing Meeting of the Church National Council decided to propose the Holy Synod to proclaim the year 2011 as Homage Year of the Holy Baptism and of the Holy Wedding within the Romanian Patriarchate, taking into account today’s concrete pastoral needs.
