Politicians from both sides of the divide agreed yesterday that urgent action needs to be taken to restore the threatened cultural heritage of Cyprus before it is too late.
They were speaking after a joint visit to the Orthodox Monastery of St Panteleimon in occupied Myrtou and the Armenian monastery of Sourp Magar in the Pentadaktylos mountains.
The group was accompanied by the Ambassador of Slovakia to Cyprus Oksana Tomova.
A UNDP representative announced that around €2m would be made available for renovation of the Orthodox monastery, and that work should begin in the second half of 2014.
The politicians agreed that money should be found urgently from Cyprus and abroad to restore the Armenian monastery which is seriously threatened by decay and neglect.
