Crowds Queue for a Miracle of St Maximus

Clergymen from different bishoprics attended the ceremony marking the 40th anniversary since the enthronement of Patriarch Maxim, Head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church
Thousands of believers gathered to touch or at least see the relics of St Maximus the Confessor. At 6pm the relics arrived from Varna to the Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia and were welcomed by Plovdiv Metropolitan, Nikolay, the cathedral primate – Tiveriopol bishop, Tikhon and priests from the major churches in Sofia. The evening liturgy was led by Metropolitan Nikolay.
The relics were brought to Bulgaria from the Mount of Athos to mark forty years of Patriarch Maxim’s enthronization as Head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The gesture came a gift from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople.
Bulgaria’s first men – President Georgi Parvanov and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will also congratulate Patriarch Maxim.
