Copts Rally in Sydney- Tuesday January,19th

An open invitation to the Coptic congregation of the Diocese of Sydney

and invited guests, to participate in a peaceful rally, led by the Youth

WHERE: The St James Station end of Hyde Park

(Corner St James St and Macquarie St)

WHEN: 11am for a 12pm start, on Tuesday 19th January 2010

AIM: This event has been requested by the Australian Coptic Youth of Sydney, with the support of the Vicar of the Coptic Orthodox Church Diocese of Sydney, and our reverend fathers the clergy.

The aim of the rally is to raise awareness amongst fellow Australians,
regarding the atrocities being committed against Christians in Egypt and to highlight the dangers of Islamic extremism which has been seen world wide over recent years.

WHY NOW?: On the eve of Coptic Orthodox Christmas (6th January 2010) three unprovoked Islamists opened fire into a crowd of churchgoers in Southern Egypt, killing seven mainly youths and badly injuring 9 others.

His Grace Bishop Kirollos of Nagaa Hammadi was quoted in the media as saying “It is all religious now. This is a religious war about how they can finish off the Christians in Egypt”.

This attack is just one in a long list of coordinated attacks against Coptic Christians that have resulted in hundreds of deaths over the last few years without any perpetrators being appropriately convicted in each instance.

We hope that all of the youth of Sydney, under the guidance of our beloved Coptic Orthodox Church, participate and unite in solidarity with their fellow youth in Egypt and lift their voices and prayers in support.
