Coptic Orthodox Choir Singing on the Cairo Metro Sparks Debate in Egypt

Cairo-Egypt: Singing by the Coptic Orthodox Choir on the Cairo Metro has sparked controversy regarding the expression of faith and religious intolerance in the country. The video of the signing went viral. Nabila Makram, the Egyptian Minister for Immigration and Expatriates’ Affairs shared the video on her Facebook account as part of celebrations of the Dormition of Theotokos ( Every year in August).

The video has sparked a debate regarding the public expression of faith among Egyptians at home and abroad. Ishak Ibrahim who is a researcher at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) believes that choir singing is an act of courage and bravery considering the fact that the Egyptian society is intolerant to the Christian faith and its public expression.
