Chair of the UOC Synodal Military Department greeted frontier guards on their Professional Holiday
Address by the Chairman of the Synodal Department of the UOC for Relations with Armed Forces and Other Military Agencies of Ukraine Archbishop of Lviv and Halych Augustine on the occasion of the Frontier Guards’ Day
CHAIR OF THE STATE FRONTIER SERVICE OF UKRAINE
GENERAL OF THE ARMY OF UKRAINE
LYTVYN MYKOLA MYKHAILOVYCH
Honorable Mykola Mykhailovych!
Dear frontier servicemen!
In all times the service of frontier guards was not only responsible and dangerous, but also prestigious.
A frontier guard is not just a soldier, performing commander’s orders bearing arms.
The one entrusted with guarding the state borders is highly responsible before God, his state and compatriots. One cannot do without increased attention, self-possession, profound knowledge of human psychology, physical training and readiness to recognize at any tine and under any circumstances the one trying to cross the frontier with evil intentions.
As a rule, the frontier guards perform their difficult service right when average citizens are not ready for decisive actions at all. It happens when we all pray at the church, mark New Year, watch theater performance, work in the kitchen garden, see to the children etc.
On those moments the frontier guards watch intensely and are alert.
One who is not a patriot of his own country, who does not hold dear his relatives, does not love his neighbors, cannot become a real frontier guard.
And what is most important, nothing in this world happens without God’s will. The Holy Scripture tells us that unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.
Therefore, greeting you on this day on the professional feast I heartily wish you God’s assistance. May the All-Merciful God support your families on the moments when you are not with them, I grant personally for you forces and inspiration in the further service for the benefit of the country.
Low bow and sincere gratitude to you for your important service,
Respectfully,
† Augustine,
Archbishop of Lviv and Halych,
chairman of the Synodal Department of the UOC for Relations with the Armed Forces and Other Military Agencies of Ukraine
