Kerala-India: His Beatitude Abune Thomas I – Catholicos of India and the Metropolitan Trustee of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India has announced his support to all peace initiatives put forward by His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II – Patriarch of Antioch and All East. The Syriac Orthodox Church in India will give their full support and help to resolve the schism with the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church.

Catholicos was speaking at the 96th anniversary of all Malankara Prayer Meeting of the Syriac Orthodox Faith Movement. The Primate also commented that it would be good to allow the clergy of Indian Orthodox Malankara Church to participate in the sacramental rites like baptism, wedding, the funeral of Syriac Orthodox Church and vice versa. This would be the first step of resolving the schism. Abune Baslelios Thomas I said that it is always welcome to exist as two separate sister churches within the Orthodox communion.
